Description
A heavy-duty, fully articulated microphone boom arm designed entirely for FDM printing. Instead of relying on fragile printed threads for major stress points, this system uses a hybrid approach: structural parts capture standard hex nuts and bolts, while retaining large, ergonomic 3D-printed knobs for toolless adjustment.
The modular desk clamp handles surfaces up to 37mm thick, and the universal microphone bracket uses a flexible 45mm C-ring grip that tightens around the microphone body, bypassing unknown thread specifications entirely.
Hardware Requirements
This build utilizes standard metric fasteners to ensure the boom arm safely holds its position under load without cracking:
- Joints: 4× M8×40mm hex bolts and 4× M8 hex nuts.
- Desk Clamp: 1× M10×60mm hex bolt and 1× M10 hex nut.
- Mic Grip: 1× M4×20mm bolt and 1× M4 hex nut.
Print Notes
All parts are oriented flat on the build plate to align the FDM layer lines parallel to the physical stress direction—virtually eliminating the need for supports.
- Walls: Minimum 4 perimeters for structural rigidity.
- Infill: 30–40% Gyroid.
- Materials: PETG or ABS recommended for the arms and clamp body to resist long-term creep. The desk pad can be printed in TPU for maximum grip.
- Tolerances: Joint clearances are built with 0.25mm spacing. Hex pockets are generously oversized for easy bolt insertion.

An oversized, stable desktop stand designed for larger devices. It uses a thick, continuous profile with a wide footprint and a deep front cradle to keep heavy hardware from tipping backwards. The underside is channeled out to ensure the stand rests securely on its front and back edges without rocking. Remix Variables Total Width: Currently 100 mm. Drop this to 60 mm if you want a slimmer profile, or stretch it to 150 mm for a massive tablet. Backrest Height: Reaches 110 mm off the desk. You can lower the rear profile points if your device sits fine on a shorter spine. Cradle Gap: Set at roughly 24 mm to accommodate thick cases or ruggedized hardware. Pull the inner cradle coordinates forward if you need a tighter grip on bare devices.
Print-in-Place Desk Gyro
Idle hands end up disassembling pens or clicking loose hardware, which drives everyone else in the room crazy. This is a quiet, self-contained fix. Four concentric rings spin freely inside each other on tiny internal pivots, printed fully assembled as one part. Tolerances and Print Details Gaps: 0.4mm clearance between each ring prevents fusing. Pivots: 0.5mm radial clearance on the pins to keep them spinning smoothly once cracked loose. Overhangs: The pivots use a diamond profile to grow out at 45 degrees, requiring zero supports. Pop it off the plate, snap the axes loose, and you're good.
