TactiTrail — Tactile Snakes and Ladders

TactiTrail is a modular snakes and ladders set designed to be read by touch. Two 180 × 110 mm board modules join with a dovetail to form a 20-space track. Ladders, snakes, pegs and start/finish markers are separate pieces that press-fit into the board without glue.

Layout

• Middle row: 20 spaces (1–10 on module one, 11–20 on module two), each with a raised rounded boundary (1.2 mm), a raised number (1 mm) and a peg socket.
• Top row: three ladder positions per module.
• Bottom row: three snake positions per module.

Pieces

• Ladder: 18 × 26 mm, two 3.5 mm rails, four 2.5 mm rungs, 2.5 mm raised.
• Snake: sine-wave body about 6 mm wide, tapered tail, oval 9 mm head, 2.6 mm raised.
• Pegs: sphere, cylinder and rounded cone, each on a 7.8 mm stem.
• Start marker: raised triangle. Finish marker: raised ring.

Print notes

• Board: print flat, numbers up. Braille is left out, as dots at a reliable size do not fit the cells.
• Ladders, snakes and markers: print face-down (flipped) so the rounded top is on the bed and no supports are needed.
• Pegs: print upright on the stem; the sphere may want a little support under its neck.
• Socket clearance is 0.4 mm. Pegs are small parts and not suitable for children under 3.
• Print quantities: boards 1 each (A and B), ladders and snakes 6 each, other pieces as needed.
